Juliette KovácsTREIZE 1

A vase of flowers, drawn in one thin black line on a canvas taller than a person. A red stain bleeds in from the edge, a yellow dot floats nearby, a flash of blue sits where a petal should be.

Juliette Kovács starts from preparatory drawings by major male artists of Western art history. In tapestry these are cartoons: models that guide the weaver. She enlarges them, breaks them into fragments and moves them.

One's Belief is the first canvas of her series Subject Matters. From the pavement it reads as an image. Look longer and it becomes process: tape, oil, raw pigment, traces of earlier work. The archive, here, is a material that can be recomposed.

Becks LangeTREIZE 2

A plate of rice on the pavement, next to a body taking a break. A crowd pressed together under a tree. A corner bar where party flags, beer crates and raised arms fight for space.

In 2023, Becks Lange went to her first Brazilian Carnival, not as a tourist, not quite as an insider. Guided by Brazilian friends, she skipped the parades and followed the street blocos, the botecos and the shared meals that run into sunrise.

Shot on colour film, theSpace Between looks at Carnival from its edges: the hours after the spectacle, when pleasure, fatigue, politics and appetite share the same frame. Nothing is explained. Nothing is resolved. Everything is there, in the space between.
