Baptiste Aimé
Chaos remains in the vicinity of real
Baptiste Aimé was born in Saint-Étienne in 1996 and lives in Brussels. He graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Montpellier in 2019 and also studies civil engineering at EPB.
Mathematics and the hard sciences are his tools for looking at structures, systems and the places we live in.
The exhibition
One tapestry hangs alone in a bright red window, in black, white and grey waves. It starts from chaotic attractors, the mathematical models that first showed scientists how a tiny change at the start can send the climate towards very different futures.
Baptiste Aimé takes the idea out of the lab. Today uncertainty has reached everyone and shaken our sense of what is true. His answer is hope: if the future is not fixed, we can decide it together, through the conditions we set today.
The textile sits between a design object and a tool for thinking about our actions and our environment. As he puts it, all things reside in interstices, and we look at them through myopic eyes.
