Lola Reboud

Mountains are shaped by wind

Lola Reboud was born in 1982 and lives in Brussels. She trained at the Beaux-Arts de Cergy, the ENSAD in Paris and the Sorbonne, then at Magnum Photos in New York and with Yto Barrada in Tangier.

Her photography sits between documentary and narrative, and has been shown at the CentQuatre, the Galerie du jour agnès b. and Kyotographie.

The exhibition

A mother and her daughter, seen in Borgarnes, Iceland. The photograph is square, 75 × 75 cm, framed, and one picture is all the window holds. Its title: Mountains are shaped by wind, fig.2.

It belongs to Climates, a project Lola Reboud began in 2009 and keeps building over the years. Her work looks at the links between geography, the places people live in and what she calls climates, often alongside researchers.

Documentary and storytelling sit side by side in the frame. From Rue de Namur you see two people and a landscape, and you start wondering which one shaped the other.
